The Upper Westgate Historic Street Heritage Action Zone project was a £4.4M regeneration project led by Wakefield Council. The project focused on the Upper Westgate Conservation Area and was funded by Historic England, Wakefield Council and the private sector.
As part of the project, Wakefield Civic Society worked with Wakefield Historical Society and the Council on a research and community engagement project to explore the history of the Conservation Area.
As part of the project, the Civic Society put up some new blue plaques, refurbished others, publishing a book and organised guided walks.
