Membership – Join Us Now!

We hope that you will agree that we are doing an important job. Please help us to continue our work in helping to make Wakefield a better place in which to live, work and relax. As a charity, we rely on the membership fees and donations we receive to continue our work.

The cost of membership is just £15 per year per individual or £12 for people who are retired/unwaged. Joint membership (two adults at the same address) costs £24 per year and family membership £30 per year.

Membership has its benefits!

As a member, you will receive a membership pack containing a number of our publications and printed copies of our annual report and other information to help you understand how the Society operates.

You will also start to receive regular updates by email of what the Society is doing and news about what is happening in and around Wakefield.

You will also receive invitations to our events, on-line and in person – some of these are open to all, some are ‘members only’ events.

We also run a summer programme of excursions and visits. Priority for bookings is given to members of the Society and members of Wakefield Historical Society with whom we plan the programme.

An exclusive membership benefit is our monthly Dining Club, which usually meets on the first Tuesday evening of each month. You decide whether or not to join and we send you details of where the Club will meet.

While we hope all our members will take an active interest in our work, how much, or how little, you engage with us is entirely up to you. What is most important is that your membership subscription helps cover the cost of running the Society – we couldn’t do what we do without the financial support of our members!

If you would like to join us you have a number of options for how to pay:

1. Make your membership payment by debit or credit card through our on-line shop with Square: https://wakefield-civic-society.square.site/

If you are a UK taxpayer, please consider ‘Gift Aiding’ your payment. If you choose to Gift Aid your membership subscription, we can claim the tax you have paid on your subscription from HMRC. This means that we can claim an extra 25% of the value of your payment to us. So, for example – you pay us £12 and claim £3 back from HMRC – other than choosing the Gift Aid option, there is nothing else you need do.

2. Or, you can pay by cheque by downloading our membership form for individuals, couples and families. Complete it and then return it to us with your payment made payable to Wakefield Civic Society (you can also pay by bank transfer – details are on the form). And, as with payments through our on-line shop, don’t forget to tick the Gift Aid box if you are a UK taxpayer – for every pound you give in donations or membership subscriptions, we will be able to claim an an extra 25 pence from HMRC (see notes on form).

3. If you would prefer to pay by cheque but aren’t able to print out the form, just write to us. We will need your full name and address, plus a phone number and email address (if you have one). If you are taking out joint membership, please remember to give us the name of the other person as well. You can then enclose a cheque with your letter. Don’t forget to tell us if we can claim Gift Aid on your payment (see above).
